Safety Tips

Your safety is our priority. Follow these guidelines to have safe and enjoyable experiences on Tomo.

Safety First

Tomo is designed to help you meet new people, but it's important to take precautions when meeting anyone for the first time.

Before the Activity

Check Profiles

Review the host's and participants' profiles. Look for verified accounts, profile photos, and activity history. Trust your instincts.

Tell Someone

Let a friend or family member know where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back.

Research the Location

Make sure you're familiar with the meeting location. Prefer public, well-lit places, especially for first-time meetups.

During the Activity

Meet in Public

For first-time activities, always meet in public places like parks, cafes, or community centers. Avoid private residences until you've built trust.

Arrange Your Own Transportation

Drive yourself, use rideshare, or take public transit. This ensures you can leave whenever you want.

Keep Your Phone Charged

Make sure your phone is charged and you have a way to contact someone if needed.

Trust Your Instincts

If something feels off, leave. Your safety is more important than being polite. You can always find another activity.

Protect Your Privacy

  • Don't share personal info (address, workplace, financial details) until you know someone well
  • Use Tomo's in-app messaging rather than sharing your phone number early on
  • Be cautious about sharing your location in real-time
  • Keep an eye on what you post publicly

Watch for Red Flags

Be cautious if someone:

  • Asks for money or financial help
  • Pressures you to meet privately
  • Refuses to answer basic questions about themselves
  • Makes you uncomfortable in any way
  • Has inconsistent stories or information

Reporting Issues

If you encounter inappropriate behavior or feel unsafe:

  1. Leave the situation if you're in any danger
  2. Report the user through their profile in the app
  3. Block them to prevent further contact
  4. Contact us at safety@gettomo.app for serious concerns
  5. Contact authorities if there's criminal activity or immediate danger

In an Emergency

If you're in immediate danger, contact local emergency services right away (911 in the US). Your safety comes first.

Community Guidelines

We expect all Tomo users to:

  • Treat others with respect
  • Be honest in their profiles and communications
  • Follow the law
  • Report suspicious behavior

Users who violate our Terms of Service will have their accounts suspended or terminated.
